When accessed from the Domain Explorer you use this dialog to define the properties of a new loop number or edit the properties of a loop number.

When accessed from the Reference Explorer you use this dialog to define the properties of a new typical loop number or edit the properties of a typical loop number.

Loop number

Displays the name of the loop number.

To change the loop number name select the ellipsis button next to the list to open the Rename Loop Number Dialog Box.

To update the loop drawing document number when renaming the tag number, you must first select the Update document number check box. Also, make sure your Domain Administrator defined a naming convention for loop drawing document numbers. You cannot update document numbers automatically if the default naming convention is used for loop drawing document numbers.

Loop numeric segment

Displays the loop number segment of the current loop number.

Loop suffix

Displays the loop suffix segment of the current loop number.

Loop service

Enables you to type the loop service for the current loop number.

Old loop number

Displays the old loop number (when Display old loop number automatically is selected in Preferences > Instrument Index > Rename), or enables you to type the old name of the current loop when Display old loop number automatically is not enabled in the preferences.

Measured variable

Enables you to select the measured variable for the current loop. Alternatively, you can select the ellipsis button next to the list to open the Loop Measured Variables Dialog Box and select the measured variable or create your measured variable.

Loop type

Enables you to select the loop type for the current loop.

P&ID drawing

Enables you to select the P&ID drawing where the current loop is shown.

Not applicable when performing the procedure on typical loops.

Loop function

Enables you to select the loop function for the current loop. Alternatively, you may select the ellipsis button next to the list to open the Loop Function Dialog Box and select the loop function or create your loop function..

Loop criticality

Enables you to select the loop criticality level. Alternatively, you may select the ellipsis button next to the list to open the Loop Criticality Dialog Box and select the loop criticality level or create your loop criticality level.

Loop equipment

Enables you to select the loop equipment for the current loop. Alternatively, you may select the ellipsis button next to the list to open the Loop Criticality Dialog Box and select the loop equipment or create your loop equipment.

Not applicable when performing the procedure on typical loops.

Apply P&ID drawing to tags

Select to apply the P&ID drawing reference data to any new tag numbers to be subsequently associated with this loop. Then, in the Loop Browser View window (in the Browser module), you will be able to select a different drawing reference (if available) and propagate it to all tag numbers associated with this loop. If you are editing an existing loop which is already associated with a P&ID drawing, selecting this option replaces the existing drawing reference with the new drawing reference that you type in the P&ID drawing field.

Not applicable when performing the procedure on typical loops.

Apply service to tags

Select to download the loop service to any new tag numbers to be subsequently associated with the current loop. If you are editing an existing loop which already contains associated tag numbers, selecting this option replaces the existing tag service values with the new loop service that you type in the Loop Service field.

Apply equipment to tags

Select to apply the equipment data to any new tag numbers to be subsequently associated with this loop. If you are editing an existing loop which already contains associated equipment, selecting this option replaces the existing equipment values for the associated instruments with the new equipment that you type in the Loop equipment field. Note that if you are associating a new instrument with an existing loop and the loop that you selected is associated with equipment data different from the equipment data associated with the instrument, the software gives you the option to keep the instrument's equipment data or to apply the loop's equipment data if the Apply equipment to tags check box is selected. Equipment data is not applied to telecom tags.

Not applicable when performing the procedure on typical loops.

Func. Req.

Allows you to define a functional requirement for the current loop number. You can define multiple functional requirements for a specific loop number. Functional requirement holds process data that will be propagated to pertinent instruments by the software. You can also generate a specification for the loop that you require

Not applicable when performing the procedure on typical loops.

Note

Allows you to enter a brief note. To start a new line, hold down the CTRL key and press ENTER.

Update document number

Select this check box to update the document number of the associated loop drawing. A document number naming convention can contain segments that represent loop number properties. Therefore, if you select this check box, changing a loop number property that is used in the document number segment also changes the document numbers in accordance with this change. For details on document number naming conventions, see Document Number Naming Convention Examples in the Administration module Help.

Not applicable when performing the procedure on typical loops.

You should exercise caution when selecting this check box. If the document number naming convention of the loop drawings includes loop number convention segments that the current loop contains, after you select this check box and rename the loop, the software updates numbers of all documents that appear on the Loop Drawing List dialog of the Loop Drawings module. The software, however, does not update document numbers for which the default naming convention is used, even if these numbers contains the segments that you renamed for the for current loop.
