  1. In the Reference Explorer open the query you want to change.

  2. To add an item type and relate to an existing item type, right-click the existing item type and select Add relation to > [Item Type].

  3. To remove an item type or attribute from the query, select QB Remove Attribute on the item type or attribute.

When removing an item type from the query, all item types in the hierarchy under the removed item type are removed as well.

  4. On the Query Attributes tab, you can do the following:

    • Type a name in the Attribute caption name, to replace the Attribute name in the column header. If left blank the software uses the attribute name.

    • Rearrange the order of the attributes by dragging and dropping the attributes from one position to another in the Attributes tab.

    • Clear or select the Display Attribute check box (by default Display Attribute is selected). When cleared the attribute is still displayed in the query preview but when you generate an EDE from the query, the attribute is not shown, even though the attribute's data is still used.

  5. On the Query Preview tab, you can do the following:

    • Search for Data

    • Apply sorting to the query preview using the Sort QB Sort Attributes Tab.

    • Apply filters to the data.

  6. Select Save Icon 16bit, or close the query and at the prompt select Yes to save the changes.

Depending on the database platform you are working with, the Query Builder/EDE displays empty values from the database differently in the Filter window of your Query or EDE.

Next to the check box:

  • Oracle displays NULL.

  • Microsoft SQL Server displays * (the asterisk symbol).

The filter engine also differentiates between spaces in the string. For example, the value Red sheath (one space between the words), and the value Red sheath (two spaces between the words), though the value is the same the filter displays it as two different values.

When performing ascending or descending sorts on columns in the EDE View, all cells with NULL values do not participate in the sorting, and always display at the top of the report.
All cells with empty fields do participate in the sorting, and display at the top when sorting a column in ascending order, and at the bottom, when sorting in descending order.

The sorting is applied to all pages of the EDE.
