You use this dialog to perform an automatic cable-drum assignment and optimization in single or batch mode. The optimization process matches between cables and drums with minimum waste of cable drum length, using the following algorithm:

The highest priority is to utilize cable drums that are purchased but not yet locked. Optimization may add cables to these drums.

The second priority is to optimize the drum cable length for drums whose status is design. The guiding parameters are minimum drum length and maximum drum length.

The third priority is to create new cable drums of a given cable type.
To open this dialog, in the Wiring Module window, select Actions > Cable-Drum Assignment.
Search parameters
This group box includes the criteria you select to filter cables available for cable drum assignment.
Cable type
Allows you to select a cable type or accept the default setting ALL.
Pulling area
Allows you to select a pulling area or accept the default setting ALL.
Include assigned cables
Select to include assigned cables in addition to unassigned cables.
Find
Lists cable drums that match your filtering criteria.
Results
After clicking Find, displays the cable drums available for optimization. After clicking Optimize, it displays cable the drums after optimization.
Cable
Displays cable names.
Length
Displays cable length.
Length UOM
Displays cable length unit of measure.
Type
Displays cable type, as defined on the Cable Type dialog.
Pulling Area
Displays the pulling area that a specific cable is associated with. You make this association on the Cable dialog.
Drum
Displays the name of the drum to which a cable is assigned.
Drum Status
If a cable is assigned to a drum, displays Design or Purchased. This field is blank for an unassigned cable.
Select all (available after a successful search)
Allows you to select for optimization of all the cables displayed in the data window.
Optimize
Performs a cable-drum optimization.
