Smart Instrumentation Version
14

This section provides short descriptions of the new features in Intergraph Smart® Instrumentation 14 major and minor releases and its service packs. For details of features added in previous versions of Smart Instrumentation, see the Release Bulletin document supplied with the specific version.

Administration Module

Command Line Interface (Silent Mode)

You can now use the Command Line Interface (CLI) to carry out certain actions in the Administration module using scripts in the CLI, similar to installing Smart Instrumentation using Silent mode. The various action include;

  • Initializing a New Domain from a DDTI Backup File

  • Initializing a Domain from a Database Source (not DDTI file)

  • Encrypting Passwords

  • Rebuilding Stored Procedures and Triggers

  • Importing default Preferences

For more details, see Working with Silent Mode Operations in the Administration Module.

Initialize a Domain without Reference Data.

A new Domain type has been added to Smart Instrumentation. This Domain type contains no reference data and is used only when importing a project from an Owner Operator to and EPC where the owner operator is supplying the reference data. For more information see Initialize an Empty Domain without Reference Data

Advanced Project Preferences

You can now export and import the Advanced Project Preferences as a .apref file from and to projects outside of your Domain. For more details, see Preferences Management and Exporting Advanced Preferences.

As-Built/Projects

As-Built/Projects has been improved with the addition of;

  • Offline Projects - It is now possible for an Owner Operator to supply an external contractor a project, without the external contractor gaining access to the Owner Operator's source database. This ability for an Owner Operator to download quickly and easily a project to a file and forward the file to an external contractor, allows for a more efficient way for the external contractor to work, and more importantly, security for the Owner Operator knowing that there is no external interaction with their database. When the contractor has finished work on the project he returns the file where it can be checked before merging it back to the source database. For more information, see Export a Project and Import a Project.

  • Reference Data Only Projects - Creating a project with just reference data is now possible within Owner Operator and EPC Projects Mode. This give an external contractor a blank canvas to populate the project with new items using just the reference data supplied.

  • New Options for Merging - Two new options have been added to the claim and merger process in Smart Instrumentation.

    • Exclude Specs and Process Data

    • Specs and Process Data only

Typically, an Owner Operator sub-contracts projects such as wiring or process data to external contractors. These two new options give the Owner Operator greater control of how these sub-contractors projects are claimed or merged back into the source database. There are three possible scenarios for the use of these two new options.

    • Scenario 1 - Owner Operator sends a project to two sub-contractors.

      Contractor 1 - Process data

      Contractor 2 - Wiring data

Using both these new options the Owner Operator can claim or merge the projects in any order without effecting the other data.

    • Scenario 2 - Owner Operator performs the wiring tasks and sub-contracts the Process tasks. Using the Specs and Process Data only option, the claim or merger is performed without effecting the Owner Operators wiring work.

    • Scenario 3 - Owner Operator performs the Process tasks and sub-contracts the Wiring tasks. Using the Exclude Specs and Process Data option, the claim or merger is performed without effecting the Owner Operators process work.

For more information on merging As-Built items, see Merge Project Items with As-Built (see ) or Claim As-Built Items to a Project (see ).

EPC Project Mode

  • EPC - Projects mode is a new domain type that has been added to Smart Instrumentation. The EPC-Projects mode allows for the same functionality as in an Owner Operator domain, the creation of projects as separate items for different engineering groups to work on when creating new plants and the merging them back to the main EPC project. In the EPC-Projects mode this is known as the Projects Center.

Access Rights

Access rights can now be exported and imported. This functionality is slightly different from the Copy Access Rights command. This file can be used multiple times like a template. After creating your exported access rights ddti file, you can send this file to any Smart Instrumentation user (even those that have no direct access to your database) and they can import the file to their plant.

Integration with HxGN SDx2 or SPF

It is now possible to choose which integration environment you want to work with, HxGN SDx2 or SPF.

The current SPF integration environment is based on Document sharing, where you attach items that are related to the shared document and publish and retrieve them to your Smart software. This is done manually and no check is done to see what has changed in the document.

The HxGN SDx2 environment shares items. Changes are tracked, so only those items that have changed since the last update are shared, making the whole process faster. Also Smart Instrumentation and HxGN SDx2 have automatic continuous data sharing that runs in the background and checks for items that have been changed and shares only those items that have been updated. The time interval for the continuous data sharing is set by the SI Administrator and can be set from one minute to any number of hours.

You can now choose between HxGN SDx2 and SPF for integrating your Smart Instrumentation plants with other Hexagon 2D and 3D products.

A plant can only be registered to one integration environment, it is not possible to register to both SPF and HxGN SDx2.

Implementation in HxGN SDx2:

  1. Defined prerequisites to integrate with HxGN SDx2.

  2. Defined conditions to activate the following: Integration menu, SPF sub-menu and HxGN SDx2 sub-menu, in Smart Instrumentation (Intools) and Smart Instrumentation Administrator modules.

CAD

From version 14 Microstation is no longer supported.

Enhanced Reports Utility

Opening the Enhanced Report Utility and Symbol Editor as standalone applications, results in the utility/Symbol Editor not being connected to the Smart Instrumentation database. Due to the lack of database connection, both the About the Enhanced Report Utility, About the Symbol Browser, Symbol Browser and Title Block commands are unavailable and are grayed out in the application. We recommend that you open the Enhanced Reports Utility or Symbol Editor from within Smart Instrumentation.

Update Assemble Command

The Update Assemble Command DLL has been changed from UpdateAssemblyCmnd90.dll, to SPI.Modules.ESR.UI.dll. No changes have been made to the functionality. These changes to the code were made to improve the user experience.

Upgrade

New Command Line Interface (Silent Mode) operations have been added to Smart Instrumentation. These new CLI scripts allow you upgrade your various Schemas with out opening aProduct>. For more information, see Working with the Command Line Interface or Batch Files

Security

SPISuper user login

For security reasons, the use of the SPISuper user login is no longer available. The spi_login (security schema login) is used instead. The spi_login is more secure as it is unique per user and can be changed and encrypted by the System Administrator if required.

Database Upgrades

For MSSQL server users, the upgrade to databases can now only be performed by a System Administrator or someone whose credentials have the correct permissions as given by the System Administrator.

If you have not already removed the SPISuper user login. During the upgrade process you are prompted to enter your System Administrator credentials. The software then automatically removes the SPISuper user and replaces it with the System Administrator (spi_login) credentials.
