Smart Interop Publisher Version
16.2

The process of creating Smart Drawings involves opening a project, adding source files, and then translating them. You can create Smart Drawings for review in a web portal application or SmartPlant Foundation. SmartPlant Foundation allows Intergraph applications such as SmartPlant Markup Plus or Smart Construction access to the drawings.

The steps below show you how to translate source files into Smart Drawings. You can choose to translate your source files now, or you can schedule the translation for a later time.

When you translate files, Smart Interop Publisher establishes a relationship between the Smart Drawing in the Smart Drawings Grid and the files making up the Smart Drawing subfolders. If any of the Smart Drawing files are deleted or moved, the Smart Drawing cannot be edited, updated, or revised. You must delete the Smart Drawing and translate the source files again.

  1. Use the default project ([site database name]_General) provided with Smart Interop Publisher. This project is available only if you selected the configure option to create a default project the first time you opened Smart Interop Publisher or created a new site database. See Configure a site database.
    -OR-
Select an existing project from the Projects list.

  2. Right-click to select Settings Menu > Project Settings Command.

SHARED Tip You can also click the IOP Home Menu , and then select Options Menu > Settings Menu > Project Settings Command.

Smart Interop Publisher displays the settings for the active project in the Project Settings Dialog.

  3. Select the file locations for translated Smart Drawings in the General Tab (Project Settings Dialog).

  4. In the Advanced Tab (Project Settings Dialog), you can define a Document Type and Sub Type for non-Smart 3D source drawings. By default, the Equipment type is used if nothing is selected.

Any custom Document Type you enter must be supported by the registered SmartPlant Foundation server. Otherwise, the subsequent Smart Drawing publish fails.

    1. For Document Type, select one of the pre-defined types in the list, or click New and then type a custom document type.

    2. Type a Document Sub Type that corresponds to the selected Document Type.

  5. In the Target Applications Tab (Project Settings Dialog), select the targets (SmartPlant Foundation and Portal) to use for the translation. See Organize Your Work with Projects.

  6. If you are not in the Drawings view, click Drawings.

  7. Select the source files to use, and then click Translate .

If you are using .pid files containing links to SmartFrame .igr files in a different file location, you must map the path listed in the .pid source file to the new path location containing the .igr files. This allows Smart Interop Publisher to locate the SmartFrame .igr file during translation so that it can display all objects properly. If you change the path location of the .igr files, you must edit SubstituteDrives.txt to update the version number and new path location, and then re-translate.

    1. Locate SubstituteDrives.txt delivered in the Smart Interop Publisher install location.

    2. Under Version 2, map the path using the format:

      [old path]|[new path]

      where:

      • Old path is the location of the .igr file contained in the .pid file.

      • New path is the new, mapped location containing the .igr file.

Use the vertical bar "|" symbol to separate the path locations.

The mapping under Version 2 provides the support for Smart Interop Publisher.

        Example:

        Version 2

        \\inxeview1\User1\IGRFile2|\\inxeview1\User1\IGRFIle3

        Example old path: \\inxeview1\User1\IGRFile2

        Example new Path: \\inxeview1\User1\IGRFIle3

  8. On the Translate Source Files Dialog, type a name and location for the Smart Drawing.

  9. Define the remaining translation options as required, and then click Translate.
    -OR-
To schedule the translation to a later time, click Schedule. See Schedule a job.

In the Smart Drawings Grid, the created Smart Drawing displays with its Translation Status set to Complete. The software automatically creates a [Smart Drawing name].log file in the translation destination dwg subfolder.

If the software encounters problems causing the translation to stop, a Failed status displays in the column. The Complete-with-warnings status displays if there were issues during the translation. Review the generated log file.in the dwg subfolder.

  10. Publish the Smart Drawing to SmartPlant Foundation and Hexagon Asset Lifecycle Intelligence Portal targets.
