General

Smart File Location

Specifies the folder containing the translated Smart Models or Smart Drawings.

Prefix

(Optional) Specifies a custom lettering or a name to use as a prefix for the generated Smart Model or Smart Drawing name. Type the required prefix name.

Suffix

(Optional) Specifies a custom lettering or a name to append to the generated Smart Model or Smart Drawing name. Type your required suffix name.

Smart Interop Publisher uses the source file name as the name of the Smart Model or Smart Drawing, and then adds any defined prefix and suffix entry.

Translation Settings Group

Defines the translation settings to use for the graphics. Use the Default translation settings group, or you can select a user-defined custom group. See Define Translation Settings.

Mapping

Mapping Options

Specifies the type of mapping. Select Default to use the delivered mapping files. Select Custom to use your modified mapping files. Select Generic to use the generated mapping file.

Mapping File Locations

Specifies the folder containing the mapping files being used. For Custom or Generic types, the project Shared Content Location (defined in the Project settings > General tab) is listed by default. Use the provided location or change it. To extend the default mapping to use either the Custom or Generic mapping option, see Configure Mapping to Control Model Display.

Target Applications

Specifies the files generated after translation. Smart Interop Publisher supports two basic types of targets: Intergraph applications and third-party formats. You must select at least one target. The Smart Model files generated for each Intergraph target application and the available third-party formats are listed below. To improve translation speeds, select only the applications that you require.

Intergraph

The files listed below represent the files required for 3D models or 2D drawings to be opened by the application.

  • Smart Review - .vue, .mdb, .mdb2, and .json

  • Smart 3D - .vue, .zvf, .mdb, .mdb2, .xrg, .iop, and .json

  • SmartPlant Foundation - .vue, .zvf, .mdb, mdb2, .json, and .xrg (3D models)/ .xml (2D drawings)

  • Portal - Smart Interop Publisher generates intermediary 3D and 2D files for data exchange to the Portal and SmartPlant Foundation applications. For Portal applications that must receive model data from the SmartPlant Foundation vault, select both SmartPlant Foundation and Portal as targets.

To publish when you select both SmartPlant Foundation and Portal targets, Smart Interop Publisher requires a SmartPlant Foundation version that supports portal file types. For version information, see the compatibility matrix in the PPM Smart Community. If you do not have a required version, the publish to SmartPlant Foundation operation continues, but the portal files are not published.

Non-Intergraph

Industry Foundation Classes - .ifc. Smart Interop Publisher initially translates the file using the Smart Interop Publisher schema property attribution and then performs an export to the IFC 2x3 schema format. You can open the resulting Smart Model .ifc files with a third-party .ifc reader. This target application requires the IFC license. To access and define export settings, click the Settings icon .

Advanced

Reduce geometry size

Provides a memory reduction setting to decrease the size of your translated file so that more graphic objects can be loaded and displayed. The data reduction that can be done depends on the dataset. The Reduce geometry size option, which is enabled by default, translates source files and converts the graphics to a more efficient representation by:

  • Replacing geometry representations that take more memory with representations that take less memory, when possible.

  • Discarding geometry not required for review such as edge lines and control points.

  • Replacing multiple plane geometries with a single polymesh geometry.

  • Removing duplicate points or redundant data.

The translation also does not change the appearance of the graphics. The translated files are smaller, resulting in faster load times and faster frame display rates in the Smart Review, Smart 3D, and SPF Portal target applications. If the option is turned off, Smart Interop Publisher does not perform any optimization or changes to the source files graphics. This option does not apply to MicroStation V7 .dgn source files.

Remove Outliers

Works in conjunction with the Reduce geometry size option to discard outlier geometry elements and graphic objects, depending on the source application. Outlier data represents graphics that have been created far away from the main model data or that have extreme ranges. For .vue/.zvf/.bin files created from Smart 3D and PDMS, this option discards both geometry elements and graphic objects. For .vue/.zvf/.bin files created from other third party applications, this option discards graphic objects. Additionally, Smart Interop Publisher removes the property data from the related label database (.mdb2) file.

  • Outlier detection assumes most of data is located close together in comparison to the outlier data.

  • Outlier detection assumes the outliers are unevenly distributed relative to the majority of the data.

  • The outlier must be significantly distant from the average data position.

  • The outlier range must be significantly distant from any other data range. These distances are relative to the average size of the geometry elements and graphic objects.

  • Results may vary based on how well the data conforms to these criteria.

We recommend that you remove outliers from the original dataset using the original authoring tools, when possible. The command line reduction options might not remove enough data or might remove more data than required.

The Reduce geometry size and Remove outliers options create GPolyMesh type geometries in the translated Smart Models. Polymesh geometries can impact Smart 3D modeling operations such as placing structures and selecting surfaces or planes to create relationships. You might also encounter problems with clash detection and drawings. For translated Smart Models, clear the selected removal option and Update the Smart Model to remove the issues in Smart 3D.

Change SmartSolids to Surfaces for v7 .dgn files

Changes the SmartSolid display from wireframe to surface mode. If you do not select this option, SmartSolids are automatically translated to display in wireframe mode. This option displays when:

  • There is a .dgn selected as one of the source files.

  • You have MicroStation J (ver. 07.01) installed. If you do not have MicroStation V7.01 installed, but you have a .dgn file as one of your source files, this option displays, but it is not available.

Smart Interop Publisher cannot translate converted MicroStation V7 .dgn source files that exceed a 32 MB file size. You might have to clear this option if your source file exceeds 32 MB when translated.

Replicate source folder structure

Creates and adds the folder [Smart Model File Location]\[Source file Location] in which new and scheduled Smart Models are added. For example, you can schedule source files in folder Source\XYZ1 and Source\XYZ2 for translation and update, and specify C:\SmartModel as the Smart Model file location. The software creates the folder C:\SmartModel\XYZ1 and C:\SmartModel\XYZ2 and places the translated Smart Models into that folder when the scheduling service runs. All source folders and subfolders are replicated. This option is enabled by default.
