In addition to all the features for access control, there are several functions and duties that only special users should be allowed to use. These kinds of tasks can be controlled by privileges. Privileges can be set in Smart Materials on:

  • User level for particular users

  • Role level for all users having this role assigned

How to set the privileges depends on the security concept (how the administrator decides to set up users, roles, and access authorization).

For example, if a role was created for buyers, and all buyers should have the privilege of PO Approval, then this privilege should be assigned on the role level. But if only one of the buyers should have the PO Approval privilege, then this privilege must be assigned to this user only.

On the A.20.06.04 User Privileges screen, the administrator can assign privileges to users. For the privilege assignment to roles, see Privileges in the Roles section.

Privileges are defined on the A.10.18 Privileges screen.

The predefined privileges delivered with the software have the Standard indicator selected. For a list of all available standard privileges and their usage, see Appendix: Privileges.

The Roles Privileges section on the left shows all privileges assigned to the user via the role for the selected login. The picture above displays the privileges granted to user RS for project RST/discipline CONSTR, with the login language as English and the role of SUPER USER.

The User Privileges section on the right can be used to assign additional privileges to the selected user. If a user privilege is already assigned to a user via the role, the background of the privilege will be set to light yellow.

The Add Privileges button and the Copy Privileges from other Users button are always active for administrator users with the ASSIGN USER PRIVILEGES OP privilege. For users without this privilege, the buttons will only be active for user security records of the login project/product group.

Clicking the Add Privileges button opens the multi-selection LOV displayed in the picture below. You can select privileges from the list on the left side and click the button to move it to the right side. Or, use the button to move all available privileges to the right side. When you have completed your selection, click the button to insert all selected privileges in the User Privileges section of A.20.06.04 for the selected user security record. Using the or button will move the selected or all privileges from the right to the left side. The button will close the LOV without inserting any privileges.

Clicking the Copy Privileges from other Users button will open Window 2, which prompts you to insert user, project or product group, discipline, NLS, and role where the user privileges are to be copied from. Clicking the Start button starts the copy procedure; clicking the Cancel button cancels it.
