The Database Sessions page has multiple uses such as:

  • to identify the database processes responsible and kill sessions, in case a user reports that a session is hanging.

  • for the the administrator to identify if someone else is working with the same page, when a user encounters data access or locking conflicts.

  • for the administrator to notify all the connected users to log out, in case the database must be shut down.

You can select a display option to filter the displayed sessions. The following display options are available:

All Sessions - (default) All database sessions irrespective of status appear.

Active Sessions - Only the active sessions appear.

Idle Sessions - Only inactive or timed-out sessions appear.

Active Application Sessions - Only Smart Materials Web sessions with validity time less than the SYSDATE appear.

The following information related to sessions appears:

Session Information

Description

SID

Specifies the session identifier used in the database.

  • To view SQL statement for a session, you must login with the Super User role and the associated SQL statement will appear in the last column (Session SQL Statement).

  • The current logged in session will be highlighted in yellow.

  • If you try to kill the current session, you cannot delete the session you are logged in it with and it will show an alert saying 'The current session cannot be stopped'.

Serial#

Specifies the serial number that is used in the database.

Auditing SID

Specifies the auditing session identifier used in the database.

User Security ID

Specifies the User Security ID that identifies the login environment.

User

Specifies the name of the user who logged in to the application.

Project/Product Group

Specifies the project or product group the user is logged in to.

Discipline

Specifies the actual login discipline.

Language

Specifies the actual login language.

Role

Specifies the role that is assigned to the user.

Logon Time

Specifies the date and time when the user started the session.

Menu Item

License Module

Specifies the licensed module the user is counted for.

The License Module cell might contain other information if it is not a Smart Materials or Smart Reference Data session record.

Client IP

Specifies the client machine IP address from where the user is connected.

To support IPv6 clients, Smart Materials creates a unique IPv4 (not exactly the IPv4 standard) address and stores it internally for each IPv6 client address. You can identify if a session is from an IPv6 client if the IP address appearing in this field starts with a number greater than or equal to 256.

Client Machine

Specifies the client machine name from where the user is connected.

Client User

Specifies the client machine OS user from where the user is connected.

Application Server

Specifies the name of the used application server. If no application server is used, but the user connects directly from the database console or via SQLNET, the name of the connected client will be displayed.

The Application Server field can display other information such as the name of the client machine, for example, when working with a development tool against the database.

To kill or terminate a session, select a session and then click Kill Session.
