Sometimes you need to change the part geometry after nesting parts. The software does not automatically apply these changes. You must update and replace the old part geometries with the new ones.

This section describes how to make changes after nesting and how that affects nestings.

Notifications

The software displays notifications at different stages when you change the part geometry of nested parts.

Opening a part in the Database window:

Displays a list of nestings that use the part geometry to open, and prompts you to confirm the action.

After changing and saving a part on the Parts work area:

Displays a message that it has detected changes to objects currently in use (see below).

When opening a changed nesting work area:

Displays a yellow notification triangle on the preview image of a changed part, both on the Card and in the Work Area visuals. This yellow triangle (see below) indicates that you need to update the part geometry.

Searching for changed nestings

Search for changed nestings using the Jobs panel

  1. Open the Database window.

  2. Click the Global tab on the Jobs panel (1 in the figure below).

The Jobs panel displays all nestings in which part geometry has changed. The Nesting name, creator, and change date display for each nesting.

  3. Select the nesting to update, and then click Get (2 in the figure above).

The software creates a new job about the nesting, and displays it at the bottom of the Jobs list.

  4. Double-click the new job to activate it.

  5. Close the Database window and update the changed part geometries.

Search for changed nestings using the Parts list

  1. Open the Database window.

  2. Click the Parts tab, and then find a part that you changed.

  3. If necessary, click Sublist to display the sub list.

For detailed information about the Database window properties, see Database Window Features.

  4. Click the Nestings tab underneath the Sub list.

The Sub list displays all of the nestings that contain the part you selected in step 2.

  5. Select the nestings to update, and then click Open Nesting .

  6. Close the Database window and update the changed geometries.

Updating and Replacing Nested Parts

The software does not automatically update nestings when you change part geometry. You must replace the old part geometry with the changed part geometry.

This is a two-step process. First you update the part geometry on the visual. Next, you replace the old part geometry on the plate with the new part geometry.

The software removes any cutting paths on the nested part geometry when you replace the part geometry.

Update and replace nested parts before change inspection:

  1. Right-click the geometry on the visual, and then select Update on Work Area.

    The software updates the geometry.

    • This method enables you to update the geometry without inspecting the new geometry.

    • The yellow triangle displays on parts you need to update.

Update and replace nested parts after change inspection:

  1. Right-click the part to update on the Card Visual, and then select Reload From Database.

The software updates the visual with the new part geometry. The yellow notification triangle displays on each part geometry in the work area that you need to update.

  2. Right-click a warning triangle on the work area, and then select Part Change After Nesting from the shortcut menu.

The software displays options and information about the part geometry in the State Manager.

  3. Click Replace on the State Manager Selected Part menu.

The software replaces all part geometries of the selected order item with the new part geometries.

Alternatively, click Replace on the All Parts menu.

The software replaces all part geometries of all order items.
