Nesting Nesting ICON automatically nests parts according to the parameters and strategies you define in the State Manager. Nesting Nesting ICON can also create cutting paths automatically. For more information, see Automatic Nesting.

The Advanced, Optimizer, and Edge strategies are optional modules of Smart Production Cutting, and might not be available. For more information, please contact customer support.

Actions

OK

Nests parts and order items you select from the Visual automatically.

Set all of the necessary nesting properties before nesting.

Basic Parameters

Current Work area

Nests parts to the plates that are open to the work area.

Results View (Buffered)

Nests parts to as many plates need to nest all of the parts. The Nesting Buffer tab contains options for defining material usage priority (such as using all available remnants before using articles).

Nesting Type

Specifies whether to nest a single plate or multiple parallel parts.

Single Plate

Applies nesting to a single plate. If you selected Current Work area, you must place the pate in the work area before nesting.

Parallel Plate

Applies nesting to two parallel plates with multiple torches. If you selected Current Work area, you must place one plate in the work area before nesting.

Parallel Mirrored Plate

Applies nesting to two parallel plates. The software mirrors the parts on the second plate. Parts on the second plate are mirrored. If you selected Current Work area, you must place one plate in the work area before nesting.

Strategy

Provides options for nesting. Select one of the strategies described below.

Advanced

Uses all of the parameters from the Nesting panel. This strategy provides much better results, especially when nesting more complex parts.

Multi-torch

Uses the same parameters as Advanced, but with multiple torches.

Edge

Provides state-of-the-art algorithms for nesting. If you select Use Optimizer, the software automatically improves the solution within the given time limit.

Basic

This strategy is no longer available.

Direction X/Y

Specifies the direction of the nesting, or the direction in which the sheet is filled (not in which the parts get nested). Possible values are X and Y. If the nesting direction is horizontal, parts are nested vertically. If the nesting direction is vertical, parts are nested horizontally.

The parameters below are common to all strategies.

Fill Holes

Tries to fill holes or inner profiles of the parts using other parts.

Try Mirroring

Tries to mirror parts when nesting.

Create Cut Path

Creates a cutting path automatically. Before automatic nesting, you can can adjust cutting path parameters in the State Manager.

Use Optimizer

Tries different combinations of settings within the time limit you define. This is the most advanced automatic nesting option. You can select the best nesting option after the process completes.

Insert Leads

Inserts leads into all items before the nesting process starts.

The parameters that affect the end result during the automatic nesting process are listed below.

  • The Start Point Alignment setting in the machine database

  • Insert Leads and Create cut path in Auto Nesting

  • Move start point and Adaptive Leads in AutoFlame (we recommend disabling the Move Start Point for outer profiles, especially for rectangular items)
