Shift pattern defines the sequence of the shifts occur in the calendar, and in what shift a certain shift group is working. Shift patterns are used when the Shift Calendar is filled.

Shift patterns are configured in the Calendars > Shift Pattern. The installation of the software usually includes a basic set of commonly used patterns. It is possible to either modify these patterns or insert new patterns.

Shift groups

It is possible to define five (5) different shift groups. Usual amount of shift groups is around 2-5. One worker belongs to one shift group, so the shift group tells in what shift he/she is working on a specific day.

Insert a new shift pattern

A new shift pattern can be inserted in two ways, according to existing ones or create a new pattern.

1. Use the existing shift pattern as a model for a new one

A user can select an existing shift pattern from Calendars > Shift Patterns to be used as a model. After renaming the shift pattern is inserted to the system by press Insert. A new shift pattern is created with the same shift codes as the model pattern. The pattern can be modified for the current purpose.

2. Create a new shift pattern

From the Calendars > Shift Patterns the Insert button is clicked. The name of the new shift pattern is given automatically at the format of "Shift Pattern – ##", which can be changed later. A new empty shift pattern is created.

Fill the new shift pattern

The shift codes are needed before a shift pattern can be created. Usually the basic shift codes are installed to the system. The shift codes can be created from Calendars > Shift Calendars.

1. Select Start Date

The Start Date is required. The date is the beginning of the shift pattern. In the example below the starting day of the week is Monday.

2. Select Shift Codes

Shift codes are selected from combos (1 to 5) as a shift pattern. On the Shift Groups drop down list all the shift codes, which are inserted to the system, can be selected. The date is not needed to add on the shift pattern list. The dates on the shift pattern are only informative. Only the week structure is meaningful. After selecting needed shift codes for the day, press .

3. Create Shift Pattern

The shift pattern rows can be inserted by selecting an existing row(s). A new row appears at the end of the list.

The weekend or vacation is added to the shift pattern by inserting a row(s) without selecting shift codes.

When the shift pattern is ready, the Update button is pressed to save the pattern.

Delete a Shift Pattern

If a shift pattern is no longer needed, it can be deleted.

Select the shift pattern from the tree or in the Shift Patterns page. Click Delete . After a confirmation message the pattern is deleted.
