Before modifying or moving an object, you must select it. You can select objects using the Graphics window or the Pipeline Explorer. Most actions apply to the currently selected object.

Selecting a single object

To select an individual object, click Select Select Mode or click Edit > Select.

When you select an individual object, the element displays as the selection color (red, by default) in the Graphics window and is highlighted in the Pipeline Explorer. The software also updates the Properties window to display the associated object properties.

  • When you select multiple elements or grouped elements, they also change to the selection color and appear as highlighted in the Pipeline Explorer.

  • Use Tools > Options to change the selection color.

Some components, such as bolts and gaskets, do not have a visible graphic. To select these components, press the SHIFT key and right-click the location where the components exist. The software displays a list of all the nearby components, which you use to select the appropriate component.

Selecting multiple objects

A powerful function is the ability to select and operate on more than one object. Many manipulation commands, like delete, cut, and edit, act upon all elements in the select set. For example, you can select a set of supports and change the material assigned to all of them in one operation.

Use any of the following commands to automatically select multiple objects based on the properties they share:

  • Select Like

  • Select By

  • Select Spool

Also, you can manually select more than one object at a time by clicking Select Select Mode and then pressing the CTRL key as you click objects. Alternatively, you can click Select Select Mode and then drag the mouse around objects in the Graphics window to create a selection window.

When you release the mouse, the software displays all the items in the selection window in the selection color.

Selection Window 2

To select a range of components in the Pipeline Explorer, click the first object, and then press SHIFT while you click the last object. The software selects all the objects in between.

Unselecting objects

To unselect an object or group of objects, click any point on the Graphics window where there is no pipe geometry. You can also press the CTRL key while clicking an object to unselect it.
