The Properties window display is a two-column table that provides the common properties of the current selection in the Graphics window or the Pipeline Explorer. The currently selected object always determines the content of the Properties window. For example, if you select a pipeline, the Properties window displays data specific to that pipeline. Whereas, if you select a component, the Properties window displays properties specific to the selected component. If only one object is selected, or all selected objects are of the same type, the software displays all the properties associated with that type of object. If your select set contains objects of different types, then only the common properties appear.

The associated properties for a selected object are organized in a tree format that typically contains a root and two nodes: Components and Attributes. The root specifies the number of selected objects in the Pipeline Explorer. The Components node displays component-specific fly text and system-generated IDs. For welds, the Components node also includes the SKEY for the selected weld type. The Attributes node displays all the applicable object properties.

If the selected object has parent or child relationship with another object, for example a pipe on which a support is placed, a third node, Additions, also displays.

Double-click a parent or child item in the Additions node to view its currently defined properties in the Properties window.

Modify object properties

When you produce drawings, it is important to be able to specify and change the properties of the objects that you place in your drawing. The ability to alter properties allows you to detail the pipeline in a way that best conveys the engineering information necessary for designing the pipeline. You can review and edit the properties of any object in the Properties window. You can also copy, cut, and paste properties. See Edit Object Properties.

  • To show or hide the Properties windows, click View > Properties.

  • When the Properties window is visible, the software displays a check mark next to the Properties command on the View menu.

  • You can manipulate the Properties window so that it is docked, floating, tab-docked, or collapsed. See Customize the window layout .

  • You can narrow or widen the Properties window for better viewing. When you place the pointer on the line that divides the Properties window from the Graphics window, it becomes a two-sided arrow that you can use to drag the dividing line to the left or right.

  • You cannot modify read-only properties.
