Controls how the isometric start point is determined. Select Isogen or Automatic.

  • Isogen relies on default Isogen logic to determine the start point. When you use the Isogen setting, the start point entry does not appear in the PCF unless you turn on Change Management Enabled. In that case, the start point coordinates display in the PCF in the second and subsequent updates of the isometric drawing.

  • Automatic bases the start point on the flow direction of the pipe work. When you use the Automatic setting, the software computes the start point coordinates using the following logic:

    • Only ports with an inward flow direction are regarded as potential start points.

    • Ports on header pipe take precedence over those on branch pipe.

    • Ports without continuation parts (parts belonging to another pipeline) attached to the end take precedence over ports with continuation parts attached to the end.

    • Parts with larger bore take precedence over those with a smaller bore.

    • Where no flow directions are specified, or no flow directions can be found, the software makes its final determination between the ports on the header pipe with the largest bores.

The following examples show the designated flow direction in the pipeline and the subsequent isometric start point (shown as a green circle).

The Automatic setting also outputs start point coordinates in the PCF regardless of the Change Management setting. In cases where the isometric drawing consists of multiple part sets, the software outputs a start point in each of the PCF header sections corresponding to each part set.

  • The start point has implications for the way the drawing is split between multiple sheets as well as for automatic weld and part numbering regardless of the Start Point setting that you select.

  • When using Start Point, make sure that you do not also select Use User Defined Start Point.
