You can enter BOM positions via the Bill of Materials > IMPORT AND COMPARE > BOM Import screen, for example, a bill of materials coming from a CAD system, or you can enter the BOM data manually on the Maintain BOM screen, for example, in the planning phase of a project for estimation of the necessary material.

To manually enter BOM positions, open Window Maintain BOM and click in the node tree on the node for which you want to create positions and press Add Row.

The first (Multi Position View) tab shows a tabular view of multiple BOM positions, one position per displayed line. The fields that appear depend on the used discipline BOM view or the BOM user view.

On the second (Single Material View) tab, only one position is displayed at a time, with all its information and properties. You must go back to the MVP to view other positions.

Bill of Materials Positions 2

To create new manual BOM positions for bulk material, you can either use the multi position view or the single view. This tutorial describes the single bulk material view only.

When project defaults ZB_LPSTART and ZB_LP_INC are defined, the position number is automatically set in the Pos field when a new position is created. Otherwise, you have to enter the position manually. Next, enter the quantity and the quantity unit in the Quantity and Unit fields.

Material can be specified by entering:

  • Spec code, short code, option code, and sizes

  • Group, part, commodity code, and ident code (or just the ident code).

In our example, a position was entered with the first method, without entering the ident and thus not exactly defining the material. This action allows you to get an estimation of the necessary material, although the specification is not yet completed.

Later, you can use the FIND_IDENT verification to fetch the correct ident from the spec.

When project default ZB_COMMIT is set to ā€˜Yā€™, the commit of a BOM position automatically triggers the execution of the FIND_IDENT verification with the result that available idents are filled in with all information. The following image shows the same position of the picture above, after saving the record.

The group, part, commodity code, and ident code were filled by the FIND_IDENT verification, based on the entered spec code, short code, option code, and sizes.
