Purpose

This section explains how to import BOM data into Smart Materials Web. You can import the WBS together with the BOM positions, or you can import the BOM positions into a predefined WBS.

Exercise

  1. Open the Maintain BOM Import, and then click New Import Job, enter the name of the new BOM import job A300 into the Job Code field.

  2. Select from Excel Multi position Template from the dropdown list in the Data Source field.

  3. Select the Import File by clicking the Browse button the Import Path field.

  4. Select Issue Status and List Status, and then save.

  5. Click the Start Job button to start the upload of the data file from your local computer to the application server.

    Corresponding to the selected option, you must select an Excel sheet that was created based on the Multi Position Template (BOM_MultiPositionView_template.xls) delivered with the software.

    The following image shows an example of an Excel file for BOM import.

    The Upload button opens a new browser window.

  6. Click the Browse button to open a selection box, select the file BOM-IMPORT.xlsx to be uploaded, and click the Open button. Then, click the Submit Query button in the browser window.

    When you receive the Upload Feedback message, close the browser window to go back to your Smart Materials session.

  7. On BOM Import Jobs in the Runtime Options section, select ESTIMATE in the Issue Status field and 00-DEF in the List Status field, using the LOVs.

  8. Save the changes, and then to launch the import, click the button in the upper right corner of the screen.

  9. Acknowledge the completion message with OK. If the job passed successfully, the MAR-10779 message is shown.

  10. Click OK to finish the job. In case of an error, analyze the log files to find out the cause.

  11. Go back to BOM Import Job Details and click View Log File button in the Job Execution Statistics section at the bottom to open the log file and error report of the import job.

  12. View Import Protocol.

  13. Click View error Log File in the Job Execution Statistics section on the right to open the error log.

  14. Click View Import Protocol to open a new window displaying the BOM import protocol.

  15. Select the Errors only display option at the top of the screen to view only error messages.

  16. Open the Maintain BOM screen to check the result of the import. Click the + sign to expand the root node PIPING. The new unit A300 was imported with the import job.

  17. Expand the A300 node to see the WBS tree underneath the selected node.

  18. Double-click on the sheet 01 underneath PIPING > A300 > NF-12006. This node has the path /PIPING/A300/NF-12006.

    The software opens the Multi Position View tab.

    The Created By field in the Single Bulk Material View indicates that the position was created via import (LOAD).
