SmartPlant Foundation server activity can be logged using the built-in Tracing class. There are two logging mechanisms available. The default logging mechanism is to use the recently added Microsoft Application Logging block. However, the previous server logging method is also available if required; see File server and remote services logging method for more information.

Tracing Overview

Tracing is used to provide useful information about a given process. This information details what is happening to the file, and if an exception is thrown, you can see what action was being performed at the time of the error. Tracing can also be used to monitor the time taken to perform certain tasks, which is useful in determining the source of a performance issue.
