The Navigate Schema tab of the Manage Column Items dialog box allows you to select one or more property definitions, relationship definitions, or edge definitions, create column items from these definitions, and then add the column items to the column set.

Activate the Navigate Schema tab

In the right pane of the Manage Column Items dialog box (or the lower pane, if the form is in landscape mode), click the Navigate Schema tab.

If the column set is related to an interface definition or a class definition, the schema navigation tree appears when you click the Navigate Schema tab. If the column set is related to an interface definition, the schema navigation tree is populated with that interface definition. If the column set is related to a class definition, the schema navigation tree is populated with that class definition, and the default expansion of the tree is to the class definition's realized interfaces.

If the column set is not related to an interface definition or a class definition, the Find Class Definition dialog box appears. Enter search criteria and then select a class definition from the list that appears. Once you have selected a class definition, the schema navigation tree appears on the Navigate Schema tab. The schema navigation tree is populated with the selected class definition, and the default expansion of the tree is to the class definition's realized interfaces.

ManageColumnItems NavigateSchema

By default, the Navigate Schema tab displays the following nodes for the starting interface definition:

  • Exposed property definitions

  • Related edge definitions

  • Relationship definitions

To expand other nodes, right-click the interface definition, and select a command from the shortcut menu.

ManageColumnItems ShortCutMenu

  • Click Details on the item's shortcut menu to view the details of the selected item.

  • Click the column headers to sort the items based on that column.

Select definitions for new column items

To create column items from items displayed on this tab, select one or more property definitions, edge definitions, or relationship definitions, and then click the button.

SHARED Tip If the dialog box is in landscape mode (meaning that the Navigate Schema and Library panes are displayed below the column item pane), click the button to create column items.

Edit column items before creation

Before the column items are created in the database, you can edit certain properties of the column items in the Manage Column Items dialog box.

ManageColumnItems ListEdit

You can edit the following properties for each column item in this dialog box.

Property

Description

Name

The name of the column item.

Description

The description of the column item.

Property definition UID

Be sure to use the edge definition for all column items that use the same relationship definition path.

Dynamic item

This option is selected, or set to true, when the column item is created from a relationship definition or property definition which is expanded from a link interface.

SHARED Tip This dialog box has some of the same features of the List Edit window, including:

  • sorting the list by clicking the column header.

  • filtering the list by using the Filter List Edit Control Filter Button button.

  • freezing a column by using the Freeze This Column command on a cell's shortcut menu.

  • exporting the contents of the dialog box to Excel by using the Export to Excel command on a cell's shortcut menu (for more information, see Export list to Excel).

Click OK to add the items to the column set.

Click OK on the Managed Items dialog box to save changes to the column set and add new column items to the database.

SHARED Tip Click the Remove a selected item button to remove the relationship between a column item and a definition. The column item remains in the database.
