You can set the number of characters that a user can type into a box on any display item. To restrict the field length, find the form, for example, DesignDocument-Form, and expand it. Right-click the display item, and click Update. Set the number of characters in the Field length for input box.
If you are using a version prior to SmartPlant Foundation 2009 R3 SP2, you must upgrade
to set field length restrictions on a display item. After upgrading, find the SPFDisplayItem
class definition. Right-click SPFDisplayItem, and click Generate Form to regenerate the delivered forms for displays items.
