SmartPlant Foundation is highly-configurable software with a large capacity for configuration. Excessive configuration can make the system run at less than optimal capacity, however. You can configure SmartPlant Foundation to run with better performance.

Some items to consider when configuring SmartPlant Foundation for better performance:

  • When testing any of the processes described in this help, please note that processes might run against an empty database but might not as fast in a fully populated one. Test the configuration on a representative set of data. The spread of data (the amounts of data in different tables and the amount of data with similar values) could make a difference in the way queries are run in that particular database.

  • Additionally, defaults are suggestions and can be configured to fit your individual needs.

  • This document is designed to show some options to try and the theory behind them, and it may assist in finding and applying processes to enhance the performance of the system.

One of the main considerations when configuring the system is the trade-off between optimum response time for any given operation and the amount of data you can view at one time. For example, it is possible to display many relationships in the columns of the list view, but this puts a higher load on the server and increases the memory usage on the client computer. It might be more beneficial to display only the most pertinent information in the list views and present detailed information when specifically requested.
