The configuration service provides a centrally located place for all the installation and configuration settings for SmartPlant Foundation. The application and database connection settings for the application and cache service are managed by the configuration service in the SPFAppServer.config file, which is located in the [SITE_NAME]\SPFConfigService\SPFSharedSettings folder.
The configuration service has a number of responsibilities including scheduler polling. It checks if the configured schedulers need to start processing, which takes the burden of polling away from the application server. The configuration service determines which SmartPlant Foundation site needs to be polled to service the scheduler request and sends a request to that site to start polling for tasks.
