Distribution matrices are used to set up lists of recipients for workflow steps based on properties or relationships of the object in the workflow. Each recipient on the matrix has a Reason For Receipt (RFR), which indicates why the recipient is included.

A distribution matrix is a table with recipients along the top and matrix categories down the side. The matrix categories can be based on any property or relationship on the object going down the workflow, such as document type, project, and contract. Each cell in the table is marked with the reason for receipt for each recipient.

Distribution matrices determine which users receive the workflow actions and what tasks are required of those recipients. Separate matrix classes must be defined for each object that has different mappings.

Alternative matrices can be configured on a step and controlled by a condition. For example, transmittal matrices are created for a reason for issue and related to the step by a condition such as IsIssuedForConstruction.
