Administrators configure printing by creating objects and relationships in SmartPlant Foundation. These relationships determine user access to printers as well as which printer or application will handle each file type.

  • Relationships between organizations and hosts

  • Relationships between users and organizations

  • Relationships between organizations and printer groups

  • Relationships between printer groups and printers

  • Relationships between printers and file types

Printers belong to printer groups, which are often set up based on physical location. The print service is accessed via a URL defined in the printer group.

Printer groups can be related to different organizations to allow for segregating which printers a user can see. A user can see printers that they have access to via the printer group-to-organization relationship. An organization can be, for example, a site or department.

The relationships between printers and file types define the default printing application when a file is printed. Default printers for printer groups or individual users can also be specified.

Users can override the defaults during batch printing.

Printers can be configured to print only certain file types, and a user will not see that printer if not printing one of those file types.

Printing can be configured as a scheduled task.
