The vendor can create tags for an object and provide its technical details in the Microsoft Excel data sheet. The data sheet with the tag details can then be loaded into SmartPlant Master Tag Registry using Excel Import functionality.

Date in the Microsoft Excel data sheet must be in the YYYY/MM/DD format to import data into SmartPlant Master Tag Registry.

After receiving the updated Microsoft Excel file with the tag details from the vendor, import the tags into SmartPlant Master Tag Registry using the following steps.

Make sure the Create Scope in the Set Active Scope dialog box is set to the appropriate plant to import tags into the MTRAuthoring domain. To set the scope to the required plant, see Set the active configuration by role.

  1. In SmartPlant Master Tag Registry, click File > Excel Import > Excel Import to import the modified data sheet with tags.

  2. Browse to the Microsoft Excel file that contains the tag information you want to load, and click Open.

  3. Click Browse browse to open the Select Data list Template dialog box, where you can select the appropriate data list template for the specific type of tags you are importing. Click OK.

By default, data list definitions are delivered with the SmartPlant Master Tag Registry for standard tag types. You can find the data list definitions on Smart Community. For more information, see Find sample data on Smart Community. .

SHARED Tip To view all the data list definitions delivered with the software, click Find > Datalist Definitions.

  4. Click Next to load the tags.

  5. Click Finish.

  • When you update properties or relationships that comprise the ENS for a tag, the name of the tag is updated automatically according to the defined ENS.

  • You generate a datasheet with tags from SmartPlant Master Tag Registry and modify existing tags in that Microsoft Excel datasheet. When you import the updated datasheet into SmartPlant Master Tag Registry, the Import Results Summary window shows that more updates were made rather than actual changes made in the datasheet. This is because the updates are triggered based on the container ID of the Excel file during import process.
