Intergraph SmartPlant Access Control Analysis is a richly featured reporting and administration application that can quickly and easily visualize and edit access control data that includes methods, client APIs, relationship definitions, and access groups. The access control data can then be used to tune the security and access configuration of the SmartPlant Foundation system. For example:

  • You can find each object through the details exposed through related items using a dynamic query mechanism.

  • You can find a role that is related to one or more access groups and the access groups are related to one or more methods or relationship definitions.

  • You can easily identify all the capabilities that a given role or access group can provide to a user.

  • You can edit and review delivered access groups and their duplicates.

For more information on how the security model can be configured for a SmartPlant Foundation system, see Security Model Configuration Overview.

Access control query wizard

You can quickly and easily find access information in SmartPlant Access Control Analysis using the Access Control Query Wizard, with which you define specific details to build a query that displays such information as:

  • Methods

  • Relationship Definitions

  • Graph Definitions

  • Edge Definitions

  • View Definitions

  • Access Groups

You can also use SmartPlant Access Control Analysis to find more detailed information, such as:

  • Identify the methods exposed on a right-hand mouse function

  • Find any method that does not have access control

  • Show any methods that have a toolbar item

  • Report which methods are exposed to a user or a role

  • View how many methods a specific role has access to

  • Display all relationship definitions for an interface definition

  • Visualize all the content of an access group, such as methods and relationship definitions

  • Compare one access group with another and make changes based on that comparison

Query types

You build a query based on the main query type that you initially select to find the access control data you want. The main query types are as follows:

By User Profile

This query type uses specific access types, such as users, roles, access groups, configuration items, and the starting object type.

This diagram represents a query By User Profile that shows how methods can be found through the user profile. This query is based on using Methods as the starting object and selecting an access group as the main criteria type. You can then refine the results as you define the query by selecting different filters, such as specific configurations, interface definitions and client APIs. By doing so, you access a targeted set of manageable data.

By Schema

This query uses specific schema objects, such as class definitions, interface definitions, or the starting object type.

This diagram represents a query By Schema to locate methods from a class definition through their interface definitions. This query is based on using Methods as the starting object and selecting a class definition as the main criteria type. You can refine the results as you define the query by selecting different filters, such as specific configurations, interface definitions and client APIs. By doing so, you access a targeted set of manageable data.

All Methods

This query type is only available if you select Methods as the starting object type, and uses client APIs and additional filters to locate the methods.

This diagram represents a query using All Methods. The methods are found by selecting specific client APIs to narrow your results and then using the additional filtering, such as if the client API is found in the Desktop Client. By doing so, you access a targeted set of manageable data.

The access data query results are returned in the main window displayed in columns in a tabular grid view. Further options are available where you can:

  • Refine the query results to reduce the data set to a more manageable, targeted set of data.

  • Open all of the results or select a single item as a paged query in the Desktop Client.

  • Display the access control details of a single item as a diagram, where you can visualize all of the relationships for the item as a diagrammatic representation.

  • For more information, see Explore the access control query results and View the access control diagram.
