  1. Browse to the downloaded data sheet you created, and open it using Microsoft Excel.

  2. Enter information about the tag in the data sheet, as necessary. To enter additional information about relationships the tags have with other objects in a data sheet, see Additional tag information to provide in a data sheet.

    • Click Properties PropertiesCommand to expand the task pane and display the properties for the active cell.

    • For properties that are defined by an enumerated list, the complete list of available values is included in the data sheet in a list box. Click the list box, and then select the correct entry from the list.

    • For properties that require a unit of measurement (UoM), select the UoM from the list first and then provide the applicable value. If UoM value is not selected, you cannot import the data sheet into SmartPlant Master Tag Registry.

    • For the Unit property, you must provide a value that currently exists in the list of units in the authoring domain of SmartPlant Foundation.

    • For the System property, use the name of one that currently exists in the list of systems created in the SmartPlant Master Tag Registry, or leave the value empty.

    • For Manufacturer property, you must provide a value that currently exists in the Manufacturers Enum List. If the value is not available, the SmartPlant Foundation Administrator must add a new Enum list entry for Manufacturers. For more information, refer to Publish tags.

    • For properties such as Warranty Expiration Date and Installation Date, the value must be in the YYYY/MM/DD format to import data into the SmartPlant Master Tag Registry.

    • For the New Sequence Number property, provide a number that you want to assign for the new tag. When you import the Microsoft Excel datasheet into SmartPlant Master Tag Registry, a tag is created based on ENS definition where the new tag number is considered as the sequence number. If no value is provided for the New Sequence Number property, the tag number is allocated automatically by the ENS when you import the Microsoft Excel file with tag details into SmartPlant Master Tag Registry.

You cannot assign duplicate tag numbers.

The following table illustrates the Microsoft Excel file with new tag numbers:

    Tag number

    Tag status

    Instrument process function

    Instrument type

    New sequence number

TBA: To be allocated using ENS

    Active

    Control Valve

    CV

    240

TBA: To be allocated using ENS

    Active

    General Instrument

    I/P

    340

TBA: To be allocated using ENS

    Active

    Flow Instrument

    FI

TBA: To be allocated using ENS

    Active

    Level Instrument

    LSH

    500

When you import the Microsoft Excel datasheet with the above data into SmartPlant Master Tag Registry, the software creates new tags based on the ENS definition and New Sequence Number property. The new tags are CV-240, I/P-340, FI-341, and LSH-500 respectively. Because there is no value provided for the instrument process function Flow Instrument, the system automatically generates a new tag number based on the preceding tag number value. Therefore, the tag number allocated for the Flow Instrument is FI – 341.

  3. Click File > Save to save changes in the data sheet.

The data sheet changes must be saved as an .xlsm file.

  • When you save the data sheet in .xlsm format, an .xml file is generated in the same location where the .xlsm file was saved.

  • When sending the datasheet for offline editing, such as allowing a vendor, to add technical details for the tags, you must send both the .xlsm and .xml files of the datasheet.

  • To view tag numbers in a data sheet while you scroll to another area of the data sheet, you need to freeze the Tag Number column using the Freeze Panes command.

  • In the generated data sheet you cannot enter data in the Tag number column. The tag number is allocated by the ENS when you import the Microsoft Excel file with tag details into SmartPlant Master Tag Registry.

  • In the Microsoft Excel sheet, you can drag values from one cell to another only in rows that are already instantiated. The drag-and-drop feature is available only for cells within the same column.
