You can use a data sheet to create new tags and provide any technical details available for the tags. The data sheet can be accessed, reviewed, and edited by other users, including the vendor, without using SmartPlant Foundation. The file can be moved as necessary, so that data can be provided from different sources at different locations.

By default, SmartPlant Master Tag Registry delivers sample pipeline datasheet SPMTRAuthoredPipeline Datasheets that contain sample data of pipeline tag type at Smart Community. For more information, see Find sample data on Smart Community.

  1. In the data sheet, select a cell in the Line List Record Name column, and click New New_cell to create and enter technical details for new pipeline tags.

  2. In the Create tags dialog box, enter the number of tags you want to create, and click OK.

SHARED Tip By default, all the empty cells in the data sheet are in a locked state until you unlock each row as described in step1.

    • The line list record name and pipeline are created based on the pre-defined ENS definition. So, in the data sheet, the Line List Record Name and Line Number columns contains the value “TBA: To be allocated using ENS.” Do not modify the value in this column.

    • The top row of the spreadsheet contains predefined column headers. Do not modify this row.

  3. Enter information about the tag in the data sheet, as necessary. To enter additional information about relationships the tags have with other objects in a data sheet, see Additional tag information to provide in a data sheet.

  4. You must provide values for the properties in a datasheet such as, Fluid System, Fluid Code, Line Sequence Number, Nominal Diameter, Piping Material Class, and Insulation Purpose.

    • Click Properties expand to expand the task pane and display the properties for the active cell.

    • For properties that are defined by an enumerated list, the complete list of available values is included in the data sheet in a list box. Click the list box, and then select the correct entry from the list.

    • For properties that require a unit of measurement (UoM), select the UoM from the list first and then provide the applicable value. If UoM value is not selected, you cannot import the data sheet into SmartPlant Master Tag Registry.

    • For Installation Date, the value must be in the YYYY/MM/DD format to import data into the SmartPlant Master Tag Registry.

  5. Click File > Save to save changes in the data sheet.

The data sheet changes must be saved as an .xlsm file.

  • When you save the datasheet in .xlsm format, an .xml file is generated in the same location where the .xlsm file was saved.

  • When sending the datasheet for offline editing, such as allowing a vendor, to add technical details for the tags, you must send both the .xlsm and .xml files of the datasheet.

  • To view tags in a data sheet while you scroll to another area of the data sheet, you need to freeze the Line List Record Name column using the Freeze Panes command.

  • In the generated data sheet you cannot enter data in the Line List Record Name and Line Number columns. The tag number is allocated by the ENS when you import the Microsoft Excel file with tag details into SmartPlant Master Tag Registry.

  • In the Microsoft Excel sheet, you can drag values from one cell to another only in rows that are already instantiated. The drag-and-drop feature is available only for cells within the same column.

Delete tags in a data sheet

  1. Select the object or objects, and click Delete delete on the task pane.

The Delete command is available only if:

    • The selected cell represents the tag number on the data sheet.

    • The selected cell does not contain a defined name (such as HTABLE_MTRAUTHPIPELINE.LINE_LIST_RECORD_NAME) for the list record name. By default, the top row of the spreadsheet contains predefined column headers and their corresponding defined names. But for the column header Line List Record Name, the defined name is the cell below it.

    • For multiple tags, select the range of continuous cells in the Line List Record Name column on the data sheet.

  2. In the confirmation dialog box, click Yes to remove the tags from the data sheet.

The tags are removed from the data sheet but are not deleted from the SmartPlant Foundation database.
