There is a shortcut menu command for archive on objects in Desktop Client. This is a multi-select command.

Right-click object then select Files > Archive Files on the shortcut menu.
It is possible to archive objects against a saved ad hoc report.

Right-click saved report and click Archive files on the shortcut menu.
The above commands perform the selection of the set of objects to operate on. The archival/purge will also specify a graph definition that should be expanded on each of the selected set of objects.
All of the above submit a task to the scheduler that is, an asynchronous process to perform the operation.
It is possible to create an archive or purge scheduled task (with recurrence) against a saved ad hoc report. The recurrence of the task is taken care by the scheduler.
During archive, a relationship is created from the file (for example, version) to the archive document. This can be used to report on all archived objects and also when trying to view an archived file, the message can state that the file is archived rather than just a file not found message.
