Once you have created menu nodes and related menu items, you can assign access group permissions to those items. A user must be a member of an access group associated with the menu to gain access to that menu item. For more information about adding a new method to a menu, see Add a new command to a menu.

To create a new menu item:

  1. Right-click the menu, and click Manage Menu Items on the shortcut menu to open the Manage Menu Items dialog box.

  2. Click the Create button to open the SPFMenuItem dialog box.

  3. Type a Name and Description for the menu item.

  4. Type a Display As value for the menu item. This is the name that appears on the menu for this menu item.

  5. To associate an icon with the menu item, type the icon file name in the Icon box.

    • Icons must be located in the [drive]:\Program Files (x86)\SmartPlant\Foundation\SPFServer\Icons folder.

    • Icons must be in .gif format.

    • Icons are not typically used for menu items.

  6. To insert a separator between this menu item and other menu items below it, select the Separator required indicator check box.

  7. In the Method box, select a method from the list.

The method must have an access group.

  8. If necessary, in the Owning groups box select the owning group that can access this menu item.

Selecting an owning group will restrict who can access the item. This is not to be confused with access group control that is configured on the related method. For more information, see How to Configure the Security Model.

  9. Click Finish to create the menu item.
