In SmartPlant Foundation, a document is an object with metadata, and optionally attached files, that progresses through a specific life cycle. The document object is a complex object consisting of a document master, revision, and version.
A complex object in SmartPlant Foundation means that each component of the complex object is combined and presented in the client as a single object. Files are attached to the version. As a file is checked out and checked back in, a new version is created.
When the document is ready for release, it is signed off and the revision is locked. To make changes to a signed off document, it must be revised and a new revision created.
