For individual objects or sets of closely related objects, the export data option extracts a full definition to a file. You can also cut and paste selected parts. The following example shows how to export a component schema.

  1. Right-click the component schema and select Export Data in the Desktop Client.

The following graphic shows the options selected for exporting a transmittal workflow template while ignoring all the core structure of the step definitions and so on. This is an example of exporting by graph definition. For more information, see Exporting by graph definition.

    • Select Check similar relationships automatically to select all similar nodes where a single node is selected.

    • Select Original to switch the output to the 2007 NLF format.

  2. Select the required objects in the tree view to display their definition in the right-hand pane. See Exporting link interfaces for more information.

  3. When exporting a structured object, you often want to exclude the definition of related core objects and only include the relationship to them. Since all core objects have different ContainerIDs, select these core ContainerIDs in the Exclude objects by container list to exclude them. For example, when exporting workflow definitions, exclude the definition of the Step Types, status, and so on.

SHARED Tip If you select a container ID in the Exclude objects by container list after you have selected objects in the tree, the software clears your selections in the tree view. You must reselect the objects that you want to export in the tree view after excluding by container ID.

  4. Click Export. The software creates a sub directory, directory, and file named after the container ID. Alternatively, you can copy and paste into a file.
