An object's class definition determines whether it is configuration-controlled or not. A configuration-controlled object is created in a specified node in the configuration hierarchy. For more information on setting query and create configurations, see Creating configurations.

Queries are performed in the selected query configurations, as well as in the top configuration. For more information on queries, see Query configurations.

You can create a configuration controlled object in the Configuration Top, which makes it a configuration-independent object, visible from all configurations. For example, folders can be created by engineers as either project-specific objects or plant-specific objects, or they can also be created by the administrators as system-wide objects.

Configuration Top is configuration independent and so objects at that level cannot be claimed, even if the class definition is configured to be configuration controlled.
