Configuration Top is the top node of the configuration hierarchy. This top node is delivered with SmartPlant Foundation. Data and documents created here are configuration independent; thus, visible and available for update from any configuration.

The plant is the first level in the configuration hierarchy and usually contains the as-built data. The project must be created in plant scope. This is a way of forcing a project to be created in the plant.

Create a plant

  1. In SmartPlant Foundation Desktop Client on the Set Active Scope dialog box, set the create configuration to Scope Not Set.

  2. Click File > New > Organization/Support Items > Plant.

  3. In the Name box, type a name for the plant.

  4. In the Status box, select a Status (Active or Created).

  5. Click OK.

Create a project or a lower-level configuration

To create a sub-project in the Desktop Client, edit the applicable form (create or copy) for the configuration item to remove the read-only restriction on the display item with the relationship to the higher configuration. Additionally, you must make the now editable display item mandatory. Once the display item is editable, you can use it on the form to select a project to which to copy the new sub-project.

  1. In SmartPlant Foundation Desktop Client, right-click the plant in which you want to create the project or lower-level configuration, and click Create Project.

  2. In the Name box, type a name for the project or the lower-level configuration.

  3. In the Status box, select a Status (Active or Created).

  4. For a new sub-project, select the project beneath which you want to create the sub-project.

  5. Click OK.

Plants and projects can be bulk loaded into your SmartPlant Foundation system using an XML file.
