The null configuration is used if you have multiple query scopes selected and you only want to see the administration data returned a single time.

Query behavior affects the shortcut menu commands and relationship expansions. The context of the query, in relation to where the object actually lives, governs which updating methods are available and the results of any relationship expansion.

Therefore, the result of the relationship expansion depends on the context in which you found the data.

It is possible to query across multiple projects in a single query.

  • When setting the configurations for the query, you can specify to retrieve objects that are claimed only into the project, or retrieve objects that satisfy the query at the as built level.

  • The results of the query identify where the object resides. This is especially important where an item may be under change in more than one project. This query context is available on each object that is returned to the client. This information is available in the detail form, as a column in the list view, or in window titles when multiple windows are used to separate the results of each query.

  • The context of the query is used for all command access evaluation and relationship expansion. If you query for items in two projects, but only have update access to one project, you can update only the items in that project. Also when you navigate relationships, only items related in the project used in the query are returned. This is especially important when navigating relationships from a plant item that may have related items in many projects.
