The Engineering Numbering System (ENS) provides automated object identification numbering that allows you to apply a specific identification format section to create forms as you create objects and documents in the system. You can also reserve a sequence of ENS numbers that can be allocated to objects in the future for a specific project. The ENS identifying format that you can use is defined in an ENS definition that you create in the Desktop Client.

Can you make ENS display items mandatory on forms?

The ENS fields in display items for ENS Definitions are mandatory by default on the create or copy forms to ensure that the ENS is correctly applied to data as it is created. However, for some ENS definitions, you can stop this by changing the SPFMakeDisplayItemsMandatory option to False on the ISPFENSDef interface definition to support outgoing offline transmittals.

  • You can preview the ENS items added to the ENS definition in the ENS summary. This includes any ENS items that contain a classification. For more information, see ENS preview summary.

  • You can control the display of ENS in the object create forms using the Relationship Builder. For more information, see Control ENS display in create forms.

  • For more information on configuring ENS items and defining an ENS definition, see Configure the ENS work process.
