After you install and set up SmartPlant Markup Plus, you can use the File Type Associations dialog box to associate file types with a default viewing application. You can optionally set SmartPlant Markup Plus or an external application as the default viewing application.

Setting SmartPlant Markup Plus as the default viewing application

You must have administrator privileges to run the File Type Registration utility.

  1. From the Start menu, click All Programs > Intergraph SmartPlant Markup Plus > File Type Registration.

SHARED Tip You can also access this dialog box in SmartPlant Markup Plus by clicking Tools > Options and selecting the File Type Associations tab.

  2. Indicate in the hierarchical tree which types of files you want to be able to open in SmartPlant Markup Plus.

File types that are not selected on this dialog box may still be viewed or annotated in SmartPlant Markup Plus.

    • You can use the Associate All button to quickly select all file types in the list or the Dissociate All button to quickly cancel the selection of all file types in the list.

    • To assign additional file types to be opened with SmartPlant Markup Plus, enter the file extensions in the User-defined file types box. Separate multiple items with a ; (semicolon). Click Add to add the new file type to the hierarchy tree.

    • SmartPlant Markup Plus will be assigned as the default application for items with a selected check box. When the check box is cleared, the default application automatically reverts back to what it was before the selection.

Setting an external application as the default viewing application

You must have administrator privileges to run the File Type Registration utility.

  1. From the Start menu, click All Programs > Intergraph SmartPlant Markup Plus > File Type Registration.

SHARED Tip You can also access this dialog box in SmartPlant Markup Plus by clicking Tools > Options and selecting the File Type Associations tab.

  2. From the hierarchical tree, find the type of file you want to view with an external application.

  3. Click the Set Viewer button to open the Set Viewer dialog box.

  4. Select Other viewer from the Viewer type list.

  5. Select a registered program from the list in the Choose the program you want to use box, or click the Browse button to find the application with which you want to view the selected type of file.

SHARED Tip If you know the name and location of the application you want to use, you can enter that information directly into the Other program box rather than searching your computer with the Browse button.

  6. If necessary, use the Command-line parameters box to enter values that will tell the application how to handle the files when they are opened.

    • You can also right-click a file type on the File Type Associations dialog box and select Open With on the shortcut menu to open the Open With dialog box. From that dialog box, you can also choose an external application.

    • This procedure sets the viewer used for all files of a specified type. To set the viewer used for one specific file, see Choose a Viewer to Read File Data.
