When objects with attribute sets are copied, all attribute sets are copied with the object. The copied object is then treated as if it were the original object. There are special cases in which this behavior causes drawing corruption. To prevent errors, all Drawings-related attribute sets are removed from many objects upon pasting them, dragging them from another drawing document, or dragging them on the same drawing document's sheet. After the attribute sets are removed, the pasted/dropped objects become 'dumb' user graphics. They remain through subsequent drawing updates, but they are not related to any 3D objects or 2D drawing and report views.

Attribute sets are removed from copies of the following objects:

  • Drawing (Graphical) Views

    • Composed

    • Snapshot

    • Volume

    • Drawings by Query

    • Drawings by Rule (SmartMarine 3D)

  • Report Views

  • Detail Views

  • Section Views

  • Detail Envelopes

  • Layout Regions

  • User Graphics

    • Scaled Sketch

    • Non-Scaled Sketch

  • Labels

  • Manually Placed Dimensions. This applies only to objects placed by Edit > Paste, Right-Click-Paste, or CTRL-V, if dimensioned objects are also in the select set at copy time. Automatically placed dimensions do not duplicate upon paste.

  • Symbols not placed by way of Symbol Explorer

Attribute sets are also removed from the following environments:

  • Edit Border Template

  • Edit Volume Drawing Template

  • Edit Volume Drawing

  • Edit Composed Drawing

  • Edit Layout Template

  • If scaled sketch mode is active, attribute sets are only removed from objects when they are copy-pasted (by Edit > Paste, Right-Click-Paste, or CTRL-V) and not when they are dragged from a drawing.

  • Manual markups on the DwgTemplate layer of a Volume drawing, including any of the copied objects listed above, are not preserved after an update. Composed drawings do not have this limitation.
