This Hangers and Supports library includes specially designed spring hanger supports that includes changing the vendor spring part in the support. Each spring hanger support has a group of attributes that define the spring part. Some of the attributes are codelists. To change a spring to different vendor, you must modify the attribute values in each worksheet of the support and the codelist workbooks and then bulkload the workbooks. Use the Add, Modify, or Delete records in existing catalog mode in the Bulkload Reference Data tool to change the vendor spring parts used in the support.

The SmartPart library for the specific vendors must be available in the catalog. When you place a new support, the new vendor parts are used. You must update the existing supports in the model for the parts to be available.

Excel Data

Spring Hanger Worksheet

The spring hangers are implemented using super-assemblies and sub-assemblies. The spring hanger assemblies are broken down into the following:

  • Top portion - parts between the rod and structure

  • Middle portion - applicable for springs

  • Bottom portion - parts between the pipe and the rod

Super-assemblies can use multiple combinations of the sub-assemblies to create multiple variations of hangers.

DDS_VS_Clamp_A Worksheet

The super-assembly worksheet contains general information as well as information about the spring, for each assembly. The following image shows information for a variable spring:

SpringAssembly and SpringType - Specify the part number for the middle sub-assembly and is available in the DDS_VS_Middle worksheet. Part number is a concatenation of the SpringAssembly and the SrpingType. SpringType is the last character in the part number and SpringAssembly is the entire string except the last character.

TotalLoad - Specifies the total load on the support.

TotalTravel - Specifies the total travel for the support.

ActualTravel - Specifies the actual travel of the support.

TravelDir - Specifies the direction of travel, up or down, for the support.

ColdLoad - Specifies the cold load of the support.

VariableSpringPart - Specifies the spring part and the valid values for the variable spring are available in the hsVariableSpringPart worksheet of the DDS_Assy_Codelist workbook.

SpringSize - Specifies the size of the spring.

Example

The following example illustrates how to change the Bergen Power & Generic parts that are used in hangers to PT&P SmartParts. The following image from the workspace explorer illustrates the support in the model and the spring part classes from Bergen Power & Generic:

Prefix the rows you want to change with M and use the Add, Modify, or Delete records in existing catalog mode to bulkload the workbook using the Bulkload Reference Data tool. For more information about how to modify or replace a part in a support, see Example for modifying the steel standard in Steel Standard Rules.

The following image from the workspace explorer illustrates the support in the model and the part classes from PT&P after replacing the parts in the support:

Before you swap the Bergen Power & Generic parts to PT&P parts, verify that the following PTP worksheets are available in the AdditionalDataFiles folder:

  • HS_S3DParts_PTP

  • HS_PTPParts_Codelist
