This screen is used by the condition score calculation to determine the service life or service life usage for equipment based on its class or category. This screen has a section devoted to performance that is also discussed in this brief.

The Equipment Class Definitions screen displays these important attributes related to performance:

  • Organization: Organization is important for common classes. Specific equipment associated to a common class may still require a different performance formula. For example, if you use the same type of bus in a cold and a warm region. Or if the European organization has different regulations than the U.S. and these regulations are accounted for in the formula.

  • Class: Select the class of equipment.

  • Category: Select the category of equipment.

  • Performance Formula: Select an approved formula to calculate the performance of the equipment associated to the selected Class. You can only assign the formula on class level. Categories within that class will all use the same performance formula.

  • Auto Create Class Level: This option can only be selected if both the Class and the Class Org. are*. When the system calculates performance for an equipment it will decide on the formula to use in a specific way.

    1. If the equipment is associated to a class, use the performance formula of the equipment class definition record with the same class and where the organization is the same as that of the equipment and where category is blank.

    2. Or if no such record is found, use the formula of the equipment class definition record where the organization matches that of the equipment and where class/class org. is */*.

    3. Or if still no record is found, use the formula of the equipment class definition record where the organization is * and where class/class org. is */*.

If no record was found under condition a above, but a record was found under b, or c (class/class org = */*), and if Auto Create Class Level is selected on this found record, the system will create the missing equipment class definition record for the class of the equipment automatically during the performance calculation of the equipment and will set the Auto Created flag.

    4. If no class level record is found at all on the Equipment Class Definitions screen, the system will use the performance formula on the equipment ranking that is associated to the equipment. In this case nothing will roll-up to the class or category level on this screen.

  • Auto Create Category Level: Like Auto Create Class Level, the system will create the missing equipment class definition record for the category of the equipment automatically during the performance calculation of the equipment and will set the Auto Created flag. This option can only be selected if Category is blank on the equipment class definition record.

The remaining fields in the Performance Details section are all protected and will be populated during the performance calculations.
