Displays when you select Insert Pipe Component Command S3D_Insert_Pipe_Component ICON on the Piping Tab.

Piping Commands

Select a straight feature, end feature, nozzle, component, component port, or a point in space.

S3D_Route_Pipe_Command Pipe Command

Creates, models, and extends pipe runs quickly and precisely.

S3D_QuickRoute_Pipe ICON Quick Pipe Command

Joins two existing pipe segments in the model. You can connect the pipe segments by selecting an end feature, a nozzle, a straight feature, an olet, a tee, or a surface mounted component. Also, you can bypass a pipe run by selecting a straight feature, an olet, or a tee. The software displays all possible route paths along the active coordinate system between the selected from and to points.

S3D_Insert_Pipe_Component ICON Pipe Component Command

Places components such as valves, steam traps, strainers, tees, turns, and fire protection items.

Insert Tap Pipe Tap Command

Places a tap on components in the model. A tap is used to drain, vent, or attach an instrument to a piping component.

Select

Com_Locate Select

Select the pipe, pipe end, nozzle, or component port on which you want to place a component. You can also place a component in space by selecting a point in space.

Insert

Placement Type

Displays all the placement types. The components listed in each placement type are based on the piping specification and nominal diameter of the object selected along with the geometry at the insertion location.

Specification

Places components based on what is defined in the piping specification.

Piping Instrument

Specifies the piping custom instrument from the catalog.

Piping Specialties

Specifies the piping custom specialties from the catalog.

Catalog Tags

Specifies the component to use by the component tag based on the pipe geometry and, if applicable, the pipe specification and schedule, at the insertion location.

Design Basis Tags

Currently not implemented.

Short Code

This list displays only when you select Specification in the Placement Type list.

Displays the available component short codes.

<Default Branch>

Places default branch component as defined in the branch table. This option is not available when you select a pipe end feature.

<Default Turn>

Places default turn as defined in the piping specification. This option is only available when you select a pipe end feature.

<Default Reducer>

Places default reducer as defined in the piping specification. This option is only available when you select a pipe end feature.

Multi-Size Option

This list displays only when you select Specification in the Placement Type list.

Displays a list of multi-sizes for the selected short code. This option is available only for the short codes that support Multi-size.

Option Code

This list displays only when you select Specification in the Placement Type list.

Displays the option for the selected component. In addition, the Option list contains any options defined in the piping specification for the selected short code. Selecting a value from the Option list updates the objects.

Piping Instrument

Specifies the part number of the selected piping custom instrument.

To modify the custom instrument part number, you can do one of the following:

  • Type the custom instrument part number

  • Select the most recently used custom instrument part number from the list

  • Search for the custom instrument part

Piping Specialty

Specifies the part number of the selected piping custom specialty.

To modify the custom specialty part number, you can do one of the following:

  • Type the custom specialty part number

  • Select the most recently used custom specialty part number from the list

  • Search for the custom specialty part

  • Click Browse Catalog Com_Browser to select a custom specialty part from the Select from Catalog Dialog.

Component Tag

Displays a list of component tag numbers based on the pipe geometry and, if applicable, the pipe specification and schedule, at the insertion location. Select the component tag to insert.

Pipe Component Preview

Displays a detailed preview of the piping part and its dimensions.

This button is dimmed until you select the component to place on the pipe.

Position and Orientation

Reference Position

Select a predefined reference position for the component that you are placing. The reference position is used to define the placement location.

3D_CADWorx_Add_Definition Specify Reference Position

Click to select the reference position in the graphic view. The reference position is the location on the component symbol to use to define the placement location.

Reference Position (for branch components)

Slides the reference position of the branch component on a component. The Reference Position control lists the base ports of the selected component. When you point to a port, the software highlights it in the graphic view. When you select a port for referencing, the software moves the component based on the Distance value.

Port Orientation

Sets the reference port orientation of the placed component. This option is available only if the branch component is placed on a turn component, a size change component, or an end leg component.

SSK_Perpendicular Aligns the port orientation of the placed component perpendicular to the base component.

SSK_Parallel Aligns the port orientation of the placed component parallel to the base component.

Distance

Specifies the distance of the component from the selected reference port.

Flip

Changes the orientation of the component port that is connected to the selected port. Select the port from the Flip list or select Flip and cycle through the ports to locate the port to flip. The selected port highlights in the graphic view.

  • If you insert a lateral branch or any tee-type branch into a length of pipe or between two other components, you can only flip the inline ports of the component. However, if you insert the same component at the end of a pipe or at a nozzle, you can flip all of the component ports.

  • Because inline and offline ports cannot be under the same run, the software prompts you to specify a primary run if the component connects to an offline port.

  • You cannot flip the following component types:

    • A component placed in free space

    • End leg components such as a cap, a blind flange, reducing turns, and branching components (such as olets)

    • Generic piping components

Rotation Angle

Specifies the rotation angle about the pipe or axis for the component.

Operator Angle

Specifies the angle to rotate the valve operator about the valve stem. This angle does not affect the valve body.

Com_Move ICON Move

Moves the selected object.

This option is read-only when you insert a piping component on an end feature.

S3D_Point_Start ICON Move From

Specifies the point from which to start the move.

S3D_Point_End ICON Move To

Specifies the point at which to finish the move.

Rotate

Click to rotate the component.

Angle Step
