  1. Open Precision Input Precision Input ICON from the View Manipulation Toolbar.

    Precision Input

  2. Click Reposition Target S3D_Target_Reposition ICON and then select the pipe end.

    Component Known Distance Position Target

  3. Click Piping Tab > Insert Pipe Component Command S3D_Insert_Pipe_Component ICON to display the Insert Pipe Component Controls.

You are prompted to select the straight feature.

  4. Enter the distance from the pipe end for placement. In this example, the pipe runs north and south so 6 ft is entered in the y-axis coordinate. Press F7 to lock that direction and jump to the text box to type 6 ft.

    Component Know Distance 6ft y-axis

  5. Select the straight feature.

    aaa

SHARED Tip Because you locked the y-axis at 6 ft, Smart 3Dx projects a line 6 feet on an infinite north plane from the target at the pipe end. All you need to do is select the straight feature. Smart 3Dx finds and uses the intersection point of the 6 foot line end and the straight feature as the placement point.

  6. Select Specification from Placement Type and Gate Valve from Short Code.

The software displays the computed graphics of the specified component.

    Component Known Distance Dynmaic Graphics

SHARED Tip If you select a component type that has a different end preparation type or size than the adjacent component, Smart 3Dx uses the mating selection rule to select a mating component to install between the two incompatible ends. For example, if you choose a flanged value, Smart 3Dx chooses flanges to use between the pipes and the valve.

  7. Select Origin for the reference position.

SHARED Tip The reference position option allows you to position the component by a particular port, by its origin, or by the port of a solver-generated mating part at the active placement point.

  8. If needed, select a pipe run.

    • Click Select to select an existing run in a graphic view or in the System hierarchy.

    • Click New Pipe Run S3D_Pipe_Run ICON to create a new pipe run to route.

    • Click More to select a pipe run that is associated with a different pipeline parent. See Select Run Dialog.

Select a recently used pipe run from the list.

  9. Complete the placement:

    • Select Finish or press CTRL + ENTER to save your changes and exit the command.

    • Select Finish and Modify Finish Modify ICON or press CTRL + SHIFT + ENTER to save your changes, and then start the modification of that object.

    • Select Finish and Repeat Finish Repeat ICON or press SHIFT + ENTER to save your changes, and then restart the command using the same options.
