You have the option to automatically merge all process steps when a workflow completes, and replace them with a single unified step. All the redundant steps are then deleted. The benefit of merging similar process steps into a single process step are that the database size may be significantly reduced for workflows that are used intensively. You can configure workflow templates in two ways:

Go to an existing workflow template that has yet to complete, and select Actions
> Merge process steps on completion option.

Before creating a new workflow template, in the System Options scroll to the Workflow options details section, and check the Merge process steps on completion option.
