With concurrent engineering, you can claim an object from the plant into a project, where you can make changes to that object without affecting the object data as it exists in the plant. Once you are done with your changes and are ready to apply them to the object at the plant level, you can merge your changes into the plant. The diagram below illustrates this process.

Before merging items to the higher configuration plant, you can generate a summary of the mergeable items in the lower configuration ready to be merged to the higher configuration plant. You can view the items ready to be merged and their properties and view any alterations between the lower and higher configurations. For more information, see Generate a mergeable item summary.
