  • Before you start this procedure, make sure that you have an Internet connection and a valid Intergraph customer user name and password.

  • Smart Instrumentation is only capable of handling certain I/O types that DeltaV supports. For this reason, not all the I/O cards that you download in the DeltaV definitions are compatible with Smart Instrumentation: for example, the interface does not handle SI and Serial cards.

  1. In Smart Instrumentation, click Tools > Interfaces > DeltaV.

  2. Under Data transfer mode, select Retrieve DeltaV definitions and click OK.

  3. To download the DeltaV definitions files, do the following:

    1. On the Retrieve DeltaV Definitions dialog box, beside Default DeltaV definitions URL, click Download.

    2. On the Web page that opens, complete the form and click Submit.

    3. Follow the instructions for downloading the files.

    4. On the File Download dialog box, click Save.

    5. On the Save As dialog box, navigate to the folder and click Save.

    6. On the Download Complete dialog box, click Close.

  4. On the Retrieve DeltaV Definitions dialog box, click Browse and navigate to the folder where you downloaded the DeltaV definitions files.

  5. Under the Select column, select the documents that you want to retrieve in Smart Instrumentation and click OK.

If retrieving the HART definition file to publish and retrieve HART instruments, you must first retrieve the fieldbus definition file.

  6. When done, click Cancel.

  • The DeltaV definitions are added to the DCS Panels folder of the Reference Explorer. The 3 types of panel are:

    • DeltaV CHARM

    • DeltaV Conventional

    • DeltaV S-Series

  • Once you have retrieved Foundation Fieldbus or HART definitions, you can use them to make appropriate associations among Foundation Fieldbus device types, instrument manufacturers, and Smart Instrumentation instrument types. For details, see Associate Device Types for DCS Vendors.

  • When retrieving DeltaV definitions, the software automatically adds new definitions and updates any modifications to definitions that already exist in the Smart Instrumentation database. However, you must delete any redundant definitions manually from the Reference Explorer.
