The EDE Explorer opens when you generate an EDE, or select com_ede.png.

The EDE Explorer displays a series of folders categorized by EDE View type. Each folder contains the EDE Views that are associated with the particular view type.

There are three sections to the EDE Explorer.

  • EDE Explorer Toolbar

  • Search box

  • Tree View

EDE Explorer Toolbar

The following actions can be performed from the EDE Explorer toolbar:

New EDE Type

Creates a new View Type folder in the tree view.

Refresh

Refreshes the EDE Explorer tree view.

Collapse All

Collapses all open nodes of the EDE Explorer.

EDE_Explorer_Colors Assign Item Type Colors

Opens the Item Color Selector dialog, where you define the color of the identifying border for each item type.

EDE_Inconsistency_exsists Template Inconsistency

Checks all the EDE Views for inconsistencies against the original Query. If any inconsistencies are discovered the EDE_Inconsistency_exsists icon is displayed next to the EDE that has inconsistencies. Next time you open the EDE, a warning is displayed. No report or indication is given as to what the inconsistencies are.

Help

Opens the Smart Instrumentation Online help.

Search

Use the search to find a specific EDE. As you type, the search returns the matching EDE views.

EDE Explorer Tree View

Here you select the EDE that you want to work with, or create your own EDE View Types

EDE_Publishable

An EDE View supplied with the software or an EDE edited by or created with the query builder.

EDE_Published_ReadOnly

A read only EDE View that cannot be edited.

EDE Default View Icon

An EDE View selected as a User Default EDE View. The default EDE view is set per user, at the plant level or at the project level when working in As-Built.

A shortcut menu is available for use with the EDE Explorer View. The available commands are:

Properties

Opens the View Properties dialog where you can edit the values of the EDE.

Duplicate

Opens the View Properties dialog and duplicates the selected EDE. Available only for EDE of View Type Private. (Not available for shipped EDE folders.)

The duplication process does not finish until you select OK on the View Properties dialog. Available only for EDE of View Type Private.

Delete

Deletes the selected EDE from the EDE Explorer. (Only available for custom folder properties and all EDE views.)

  • All the EDE views in the EDE Explorer are available to all users. If you create an EDE View that you do not want other users to change, you should generate the EDE View as View Type - Private.

  • When the User Default View check box is selected in the View Properties dialog of any EDE View, the EDE main window will open to that specific EDE View every time you open the EDE module, with its specific Actions tab. To make another EDE View the Default EDE View, go to EDE View properties of another EDE, and select the User Default View check box in that EDE View's Properties. The selected User Default EDE View is marked with this EDE Default View Icon icon, in the EDE Explorer.

SHARED Tip The default EDE view is set per user, at the plant level or at the project level when working in As-Built.

  • When no User Default View is selected, the EDE module opens to the EDE Explorer. The User Default View is set per user.

  • Deleting a custom folder moves all the folders content to the General folder in the EDE.

  • Editing and updating common See-List instrument properties in the EDE results in just the property of the selected instrument being updated, not all the See-List instruments with common properties. To edit or update See-List instruments with common properties you must update them in the Specification Module.
